Yahoo everywhere!(?)

It looks like Yahoo's big announcement at CES will be Yahoo everywhere. Yahoo Go, as it's called, includes a mobile phone with a preloaded application, as well as software that lets users tap into Yahoo services from a PC-connected TV set.

So, you can have your Yahoo on the PC, in the living room and bedroom on your TV and on the go with your phone. Branded phones are the latest thing, with ESPN having launched one recently. I'm not sure how big this will really be for Yahoo though.

The Yahoo TV bit I kind of get, but a Yahoo specific phone feels like its more a cool announcement than a strategy. I would be surprised if many people buy into it.

What is probably more critical for the Yahoos and Googles of this world is their pervasive mobile strategy. I.e. what will they do generically for all mobile phones. Now there's the real catch.

Google's announcement with Opera recently is the right kind of move, but they need to announce far reaching agreements with the Nokia' and Motorola's as well as the mobile operators. Google or Yahoo should have deep partnerships with the likes of Vodafone Live. Goodness knows Vodafone could do with the help.
