Dell launches new gaming PC and fold out laptop

Dell made a solid presentation at CES. Michael Dell, founder explained that Dell is making serious progress in the consumer market, having grown 500% since 2000. That's not bad progress for a corporate no-frills computer company.

He also announced with delight that Dell shipped a record breaking 10M PC's in the last quarter of 2004 and they now ship one in every three PC's sold in the US. Perhaps this will help boost their recently sagging performance. And if not maybe their new devices will.

For the Dell Computer founder showed off a new gaming PC that includes several high-end components, including a "factory overclocked" 4.26GHz Intel Pentium Extreme Edition.

Dell's Limited Edition XPS 600 Renegade, which is expected to be available this quarter, also includes four Nvidia graphics processors in an airbrushed fiery red case.

He also showed off a fold out laptop that resembles a PC once the folding out part has been completed. And he showed off an expensive new 30" display and a new high end multimedia laptop.

Dell certainly is pushing their high end devices at the moment. I guess they realize they need to to get margins up. And there are probably an increasing amount of consumers out their willing to pay up to have a sexier looking living room PC. In anycase, Dell needs to ready themselves for Apple entering the Intel PC market this summer.
